X-RAYS
We take digital (radiation-reduced) X-ray images. These are so-called bitewing radiographs, which give us the best information about caries in the interdental space and possible inflammation. X-rays are useful from the age of around 4 ½ years when the molars are so close together that it is not possible to judge from the front whether there is caries between the teeth. If you have recent x-rays or a panoramic image at home, you are welcome to bring these with you.
DIAGNODENT DEVICE
This is a laser-induced caries measurement procedure that can reveal hidden caries on the chewing surfaces. We mainly use it on the first permanent molars.
FOTI
...stands for ‘fibre-optic transillumination’. This is a special, very bright light with which we can shine through the teeth and recognise interdental caries. It can be seen as an addition to X-rays or as an alternative if X-rays are not possible or desired. However, the accuracy is lower than with X-rays.
